She wrote Home to India shortly after she graduated from Welesley College, inspired by a trip she made to India when she was 16.  Bruce Weber wrote in the New York Times: "Though a youthful book, it immediately established the voice of an educated discoverer — observant, amused, self-deprecating, instructive without being pedantic."  $15
